  • 1 1/2 oz bourbon (we like Old Forester)
  • 1 oz Pumpkin Spice-Ginger syrup (recipe follows)
  • 1/2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 2 dashes of sassafras and sorghum bitters
  • soda water
  • nutmeg for garnish

Pumpkin Spice-Ginger Simple Syrup

Makes 1 3/4 cups

  • 3 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 3/4 tsp clove
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 oz or 1/2 cup of packed freshly chopped ginger

The perfect seasonal drink with a lil southern charm. Of course Pumpkin Spice is very trendy this time of year, but doesn’t that just mean it is an excellent flavor? You won’t want to miss out on trying this cocktail while the leaves are still hanging on.

Directions

Combine the bourbon, Pumpkin-Ginger syrup, lime juice and bitters in a copper mug. Stir ingredients well, then add ice to fill. Top with soda water and stir again. Garnish with a dash of nutmeg.

Pumpkin Spice-Ginger Simple Syrup

Makes 1 3/4 cups

Pour the syrup through s fine-mesh strainer into a container. Discard the ginger and “tea bag”. Let the syrup cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

In a coffee filter, combine the cinnamon, nutmeg and clove; tie with butcher twine to make a “tea bag”. Combine 1 1/3 cups water with the tea bag of spices and the sugar in a medium sauce pan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Turn off the heat and add the ginger. Stir and let steep for at least 30 minutes.
